The project Coexistence I: Spaces of sound explored and presented the potential of sound as an artistic intervention that interacts with other sounds, spaces and the field of the visual, socio-economic context and, in particular, the relationship of sound to observers and listeners.
The exhibition Anything heard makes demands was held from 25.06. until 18.07. 2020 in Gallery Nova, and it consisted of works and collaborations by artists Vanja Babić, Jasna Čagalj, Luana Lojić and Maja Rivić.
The exhibition part was complemented by research into the possibility of coexistence of sound and visual interpretation of sound installations within the gallery space. Curator Martina Kontošić, through conversations with the participants of the local art scene, began acoustic mapping of exhibition spaces (Galerija Prozori, Galerija VN, HDD galerija, Galerija Siva, etc.) by producing podcasts that will be permanently available on the WHW mixcloud channel.
A significant part of the project was the Conversation on sound curation with Natasha Kadin, Tereza Teklić and Evelina Turković. It was dedicated to the translation of sound into gallery and other physical spaces and their coexistence with the visual.
A kind of culmination of the project is the Notes on Sound podcast, in which Vanja Babić, Luana Lojić and Maja Rivić, with the intervention of Jasna Čagalj, articulate with their voice and sound the process of creation of the exhibition and mutual collaboration.
The opportunity for another experiment of translating sound into text and tactile experience was also the artistic publication Anything heard makes demands as another collaboration of artists who participated in this project.
