Siniša Labrović: A Job
Gallery Nova Showroom, Teslina 7, Zagreb
exhibition opening:
friday, 15/11/2013, 8pm
in collaboration with 7. VOX FEMINAE FESTIVAL
I am looking for a job (2011-2012) by Milijana Babić and A job (2013) by Siniša Labrović shared a similar process of empirical research into the concrete conditions of the labour market in Croatia in relation to the continuous increase in unemployment and the growing economic crisis.
As part of A Job project (2013), Siniša Labrović looked into the place of the gallery, its symbolic and real capital, and where is the position of art in the perception of a person looking for a job.
Milijana Babić‘s work I am looking for a job (2011-2012) is a long-term action that confirmed all the stereotypes of the domestic labor market where the prevailing qualifications for a job are a woman’s gender, age and appearance.
A reading room with books and publications on the topic of work and workers’ rights will be presented in the Showroom during the exhibition.
The following organisations and initiatives participated in the collection of materials: CESI – Center for Education, Consulting and Research; CŽS – Center for Women’s Studies; BRID – Base for workers’ initiative and democratization; CRS – Center for Labor Studies; CMS – Center for Peace Studies and HZZ – Croatian Employment Service, Zerez – biweekly magazine for cultural and social issues.
