Gallery Nova, Teslina 7, Zagreb
29/06 – 21/07/2007
The exhibition in Gallery Nova consists of two parallel units. The first is archival documentation (available during the exhibition within the opening hours) which contextualizes the work of Vojin Bakić. It does so in chronological order and in a wider social and artistic context, and follows and summarizes dynamics, continuities and breaks. The second part consists of a selection of works from his legacy, which is in the possession of the artist’s family. The selection includes about fifty small and medium-sized sculptures, a series of models, models of monuments, studies and drawings. The works exhibited at this exhibition will not be accessible to visitors in the usual way. The sculptures are exhibited in such a way that they offer a view from the outside, through the gallery’s glass wall, the doors of which are opened to the public several times a week with accompanying expert guidance from curators, critics and artists.
The form and manner of presentation of Vojin Bakić’s works in this exhibition are determined by the problematic state in which his heritage is located, both by the worrying state of the artworks themselves and by the state of semi-visibility in which Bakić’s entire legacy lives in reality – its visibility is partial and limited, its contextualization is insufficient, his the work is present, but only in fragments.
