Luka Bosanac, Ivan Jamić, Vita Jončić, Ivana Škvorčević, Elena Štrok and Lara Varat, six authors of different profiles, in dynamic mutual communication and menthored by Ivan Marušić Klif, built a multi-part light installation in Gallery Nova.
The installation takes into account not only particular spatial features of the gallery and its environment, but also the meaning of the personal in collaborative action, spontaneously arising from the current social context. The installation visible throughout the day through the gallery window, without entering the space itself, reaches the peak of its visual appearance after 7 p.m.
Collaborative aspect of the installation is based primarily in multiple presences: in the physical presence of several authors and, consequently, in the presence of several intellectual worlds. Taken into consideration that in the recent moment of history the physical presence is constrained by various limitations, the intellectual one nevertheless tries to circumvent such conditions of everyday life and live the old or imaginary life in which reality is distorted to such an extent that its existence seems almost impossible. The installation is thus built of borrowed material, various digitally stored fragments of the authors’ daily life that point to spaces where one has been or longs to be, to spaces of some present or past more beautiful reality. The construction of the installation was done through the intertwining of different currents of consciousness, marked by different poetics and artistic approaches, but at the same time, through the permeation of the current physical presence, with all past presences materialized in borrowed material. Areas of presence are not the result of dealing with a specific topic, but the result of examining the possibility of coexistence in the process. By the act of layering fragments of different realities of everyday life, an attempt was made to present a common imagination of one and better everyday life, thus emphasizing the discrepancy between what currently is and what has been or could be.

Areas of Presence are part of the project Coexistence 2: Spaces of Light, curated by Martina Kontošić. The project explores possibilities of building new production and exhibition methodologies and alternative discursive approaches through audiovisual interventions.
Project is a part of Gallery Nova program, organised by What, How and for Whom/ WHW and is supported by The Ministry of Culture and Media of the Republic of Croatia, City of Zagreb and Kultura Nova Foundation.
