He experiences the bakery as a&nbsp;familiar place, free of threat, a space of peace, a space that does not demand him to be&nbsp;anything other than himself\u2014a space of possibilities. As in other works of this legendary avant-garde artist, poet, and filmmaker, spaces of possibility are not unambiguous\u2014while absorbing&nbsp;comfort, something is also being relinquished.<\/p>\n<p>The works are situated in spaces and institutions dedicated to culture but mostly outside the&nbsp;realm of visual art. By placing the works in dialogue and connection with the locations where&nbsp;they are exhibited, a different perspective on familiar environments is opened, highlighting the&nbsp;emotional tonalities of particular places and their varying modes of hospitality.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4707\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4707\" style=\"width: 1000px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-4707\" src=\"https:\/\/www.whw.hr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Rene-Matic-Amelia-in-Bed-Dalston-2024-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1000\" height=\"1492\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.whw.hr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Rene-Matic-Amelia-in-Bed-Dalston-2024-1.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/www.whw.hr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Rene-Matic-Amelia-in-Bed-Dalston-2024-1-735x1097.jpg 735w, https:\/\/www.whw.hr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Rene-Matic-Amelia-in-Bed-Dalston-2024-1-450x671.jpg 450w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4707\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Rene Mati\u0107, <em>Amelia in Bed<\/em>, Dalston, 2024<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>At the Booksa club,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/rene.matic\/?hl=en\"> Rene Mati\u0107<\/a> exhibits a recent series of photographs capturing their&nbsp;experience of London from the perspective of the diaspora and queer community, documenting&nbsp;poetically intense fragments of gathering and meeting places, while in their sound work,&nbsp;combining protest sounds with church bells, pop music, and conversations with friends. At the&nbsp;Ribnjak Youth Center, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/skart.pro\/?hl=hr\">\u0160kart group<\/a> presents <i>budnice <\/i>(awakening songs), created as a combination of poetry, slogans, and drawings that daily accompany the months-long student protests in Serbia. Screenings of the film <em data-start=\"65\" data-end=\"74\">Swallow<\/em> (2013) by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.laureprouvost.com\/menu.html\">Laure Prouvost<\/a> will take place at the upcoming WHW space at Dra\u0161kovi\u0107eva 31.&nbsp;Inspired by the aesthetics and sensual pleasures of Italy, and drawing on the genre of panoramic painting, Prouvost\u2019s video work <em data-start=\"288\" data-end=\"297\">Swallow<\/em> plays with language, translation, and the historical idea of the Mediterranean as a source of artistic inspiration.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4708\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4708\" style=\"width: 1280px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-4708\" src=\"https:\/\/www.whw.hr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Tizintizwa-Collective-A-Song-to-the-Oar-2024-video-still.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"504\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.whw.hr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Tizintizwa-Collective-A-Song-to-the-Oar-2024-video-still.png 1280w, https:\/\/www.whw.hr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Tizintizwa-Collective-A-Song-to-the-Oar-2024-video-still-735x289.png 735w, https:\/\/www.whw.hr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Tizintizwa-Collective-A-Song-to-the-Oar-2024-video-still-450x177.png 450w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1280px) 100vw, 1280px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4708\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Tizintizwa Collective, <em>A Song to the Oar<\/em>, 2024, video still<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The film <a href=\"https:\/\/circa.art\/circa-prize-2024\/tizintizwa-collective\/\"><i>A Song to the Oar<\/i><\/a> (2024) by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/tizintizwa\/\">Tizintizwa collective<\/a> is screened&nbsp;as an intervention in the Kinoteka Cinema program, shown before regular program as an&nbsp;homage to the practice of Moroccan militant cinema. Created for public space, this two-minute&nbsp;film collage connects the history of piracy in North Africa with today\u2019s economic and authoritarian oppression, where football stadiums become rare places of expressing dissent.&nbsp;Through a performance at Klet and an installation in the Bogdan Ogrizovi\u0107 Library and Reading Room, <a href=\"https:\/\/antonkats.net\/\">Anton Kats<\/a> creates a space for the voices of artists, musicians, activists,&nbsp;poets, and theorists.<\/p>\n<p>The possibility of tenderness in relationships between different living beings is found in the photographs, film, and sound work of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.anaopalic-photographer.com\/\">Ana Opali\u0107<\/a>,&nbsp;exhibited in WHW\u2019s office space at the top of a building on Bogovi\u0107eva Street. Photography by: Sanja Bistri\u010di\u0107 Sri\u0107a<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nikomihaljevic.com\/\">Niko Mihaljevi\u0107<\/a> realizes his work on the windows of the future city gallery at Dra\u0161kovi\u0107eva 31,&nbsp;as well as through performances during the exhibition. The project continues Niko\u2019s long-term&nbsp;exploration of the language of art\u2014transforming visual critique into a musical score, then into an&nbsp;enlarged spatial graphic, hinting at the future purpose of a space awaiting renovation into a gallery. And we are happy to add it will be our responsibility to programme it.<a href=\"https:\/\/juliuskollersociety.org\/\"> J\u00falius Koller<\/a>\u2019s <i>Cultural Situation Questionnaire <\/i>(U.F.O.) (1992), displayed on the KIC facade, is part of his anti-painting and Universal Cultural Futurological Operations, intervening in everyday life through the inversion of simple objects and gestures. WHW has previously shown Koller\u2019s questionnaire at the exhibition <i>My Sweet&nbsp;<\/i><i>Little Lamb (Everything We See Could Also Be Otherwise<\/i>) in 2016\/17. Since then, the dark and&nbsp;violent political circumstances of that time have only intensified and become normalized.<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps Koller\u2019s questionnaire is the most concise response to the poetic fragment of <i>Five&nbsp;<\/i><i>White Stairs<\/i>\u2014experiencing a moment of serene understanding requires an effort of curiosity.
