Lecture by Darko Šimičić Who is Odette Steiner? tries to answer the question and present the so far known information about the life and work of the artist Odette Steiner (1899 – 1984).

A three-day pop-up exhibition of Odette Steiner‘s works will be shown at the Showroom of Gallery Nova. 

The recent discovery of about a hundred drawings created during her time in the partisans and immediately after the war reveals an entirely new perspective on the work of this almost unknown artist. The drawings are primarily small-scale, which is understandable given the circumstances in which they were created, depicting everyday scenes from the partisan life of the Steiner couple and their comrades.

The work of the artist Odette Steiner deserves our attention because it is an authentic artistic material created at a turning point in the history of our anti-fascist struggle. The purpose of the lecture is to stimulate further research that would enable the completion of existing knowledge and offer new interpretations.
